As a new members of the freebets.info team, with limited betting experience and very few existing betting accounts, I’ve been tasked with diarising an experience of matched betting to prove that just about anyone can do it.
Before I recount my first experience, I will flag that there is always going to be a trade-off between searching for the best matching odds, or even arbitrage situations, and time. You will almost certainly be able to find better odds than I highlight, as I intend to largely restrict my search to popular football matches, which generally offer good liquidity and sufficiently close odds. My aim is to provide a practical examples rather than maximise profitability.
Now to the first matched bet, and as we recommend, I chose Ladbrokes. Registering an account was simple enough, but the important point to note is that you must use the promo code “F50” when entering your details or you may run into problems claiming the bonus later. Thankfully, I remembered to look at the terms and conditions, but it’s something I’ll keep in mind for future bets.
Having deposited £50 to qualify for the maximum free bet, I spent some time looking for qualifying bets at odds of 1/2 (decimal 1.5) or greater, settling on backing Huddersfield to beat Wolves at 2.45.
- Back Huddersfield to win at 2.45 at Ladbrokes.
- Lay Huddersfield to win at 2.54 at Betfair.
Using the matched betting spreadsheet, my calculated loss was £3.26 or 7%. As it transpired, Huddersfield won 1-0, so my balance increased to £122.50 at Ladbrokes and decreased by £75.76 at Betfair. My Ladbrokes account also now included the £50 free bet. Because free bet stakes are forfeited with any winnings, and in order to keep Ladbrokes as sweet as possible, I looked for high odds and ultimately settled on backing Leicester to beat Arsenal.
- Back Leicester to win at 6 at Ladbrokes.
- Lay Leicester to win at 6.4 at Betfair.
This time, using the matched betting calculator, my profit was £37.40 or 75%. After a late own goal, Arsenal came out on top, meaning I lost the £50 free bet stake at Ladbrokes and won the lay stake less commission at Betfair.
Overall, my combined profit was £34.14 (£37.40 - £3.26). Not a bad start, and hopefully a good illustration of how simple it can be.
